Was he an entrepreneur, innovator, cartoonist, film director, or father? What was it that made him one of the most influential people of the twentieth century? It was his passion for innovation, his mind of wonders, and his loving and caring personality. This is why he is the icon that he has come to be known today. Early Life â€Å"‘Dad, I want to be an artist.’ And my dad, he just couldn’t buy that.† Walt Disney was born in Chicago, IL on December 5, 1901, to Elias and Flora Disney. In 1906 the Disney Family moved to a farm in Missouri where he learned to draw. In 1911, his family went on to move to Kansas City, MO where he delivered newspapers for his father’s paper route at 3:30 a.m. and became interested in vaudeville and movies. When his family moved to Chicago, he created cartoons for his high school yearbook, enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago, and tried to join the U.S. Army. He was not enlisted because he was not of age, but he joined the American Ambulance Corps and began in France as World War One ended. When Walt arrived back in the United States, he resolved in Kansas City and started work at a commercial art studio. At work at an ad company, Walt immersed himself in the new world of animation.
